How To Protect Your Concrete Flooring

How To Protect Your Concrete Flooring

Concrete floors are a great option for rooms with lots of foot traffic and potential spillage or damage. Although concrete is a strong and durable surface, protecting it is still a must for maintaining your floors. Coating for concrete can be used to help seal the top layers and prevent scratches, scuffs, and other damages. By protecting your floor, you help your rooms stay clean and look luxurious long after the floors have been installed.

Choosing a Coating

When coating a concrete floor, you have three different types of sealant to choose from. Each operates differently and can be utilized for different rooms and purposes.

Topical

Topical sealers are the easiest coatings to apply to concrete flooring. These are placed directly on the surface of the concrete, forming an additional protective layer. This additional layer can add volume and luster to your floors and can be applied to concrete both indoors and outdoors.

Penetrating

Penetrating sealers bond with the top layer of your concrete floor once applied. This bond creates a barrier that can protect your concrete from high moisture levels. They’re the best kinds of coatings to use for rooms with high humidity or outdoor flooring that sees a lot of rain or snow.

Integral

If you want the benefits of a topical sealer without the extra step of applying the coating, you can purchase concrete mix with an integral sealer already added. Integral sealers are mixed in with the concrete kit so that it begins providing protection and sealing safety as soon as the flooring is installed.

Why Use Coating for Concrete?

Concrete floors are naturally more durable and longer lasting than other types of flooring. However, applying a coating of sealant can help keep everything healthier and fresher longer.

Mold Inhibition

Mold can grow on almost any surface, especially if there’s enough moisture. If your concrete floors aren’t properly sealed, moisture can get into the layers, and mold can begin to grow. With the proper coating, however, moisture cannot get into your floors, and you won’t have to worry about mold growth anymore.

Extra Durability

The more foot traffic and exposure to the elements your concrete floors experience, the more damage they can sustain. Rooms with lots of heavy activity, such as garages and workstations, can see concrete floors begin to crack and ding more every day. And concrete flooring outside, such as in driveways and patios, can see increased wear and tear from rain, wind, and even harsh sunlight. By applying a protective coating, you’re helping your concrete floors maintain their durability and last longer.

Color Maintenance

Concrete flooring can come in a variety of colors and designs. Using colored concrete is a great way to add a unique flair to any room or outdoor setting. However, exposure to harsh lights, heavy foot traffic, and other conditions can cause your concrete flooring to lose the luster and vibrancy of its coloring. When you use a coating, however, you prevent the elements from harming your floors, keeping the color clean and sharp longer.

Concrete Coating Process

When applying a coating to your concrete floors, you first must decide which kind of coating you’re using. Integral sealants don’t need any additional preparation or steps, but topical and penetrating ones do.

Preparing Concrete Flooring

Before you begin applying the sealants, you need to prepare your concrete floor first. It’s important to make sure your floors are properly prepared; otherwise, the coating won’t be as effective and could even make your floors look worse. Follow these steps to ensure your concrete floors are ready for coating:

  • Remove all objects from the floor.
  • Use a putty knife to remove skirting boards as necessary.
  • Sweep and mop the floor to ensure a smooth, debris-free surface.
  • Ensure there is proper ventilation by opening windows and doors or turning on fans.
  • Use a degreasing product to remove grease from top layers.
  • If you have any oily spots on your floor, use a wire brush to clean the area.
  • Use quick-drying concrete fillers to smooth any cracks or dings in your flooring.
  • Make sure your floor is thoroughly dry before applying the sealant.

Applying Concrete Coating

Once your floors are clean and dry, you can begin applying the coating. Most concrete sealant kits will come with all the tools you’ll need, but you can use any standard painting trays and rollers to apply the coating to your floors, just like applying paint on a wall. You will want to use a smaller paintbrush to ensure the sealant reaches the edges and corners where the floor meets the wall.

Coatings usually take between 12 to 24 hours to dry, but fans and dehumidifiers can help speed up the process. It’s important not to use or disturb the flooring as the sealants dry. Most sealants only need one coat, applied every 2-5 years. So, once your floor is finished drying, you can replace molding and furniture and begin using the room as intended once more.

Why Acrylic Floor Wax is the Best Choice for Your Floors

Why Acrylic Floor Wax is the Best Choice for Your Floors

When choosing a wax for your home, you want to make sure that you’re using the best option for your floors. Acrylic floor wax is an excellent option for most types of flooring. The low toxicity makes it a safer option than other waxes, and its ease of use means it’s perfect for DIY projects. However, acrylic wax can be made with a variety of monomers, some of which don’t always produce the best floor wax. But as long as you choose a high-quality brand with the right mix, acrylic floor wax can bring out the best in your floors.

Low Toxicity

Acrylic in its purest form is incredibly strong and highly safe to work with. While many companies dilute the acrylic and add things to the mix to save money, there are some brands of acrylic wax that maintain their purity. These floor finishings are excellent DIY for use. Because acrylic is naturally low in toxicity levels, there’s less chance of injury to your body or damage to your floors. Because of its general safety level, you can find acrylic waxes in many home improvement stores and online sites. If you want to keep your floors looking their best while keeping them and yourself safe, it’s best to choose a low-toxic acrylic wax.

Low Odor

Acrylic floor finishings have a noticeably lower odor than other types of waxes and coverings. Of course, as with any home project, the quality of the wax you choose will affect the outcome. While cheap acrylic waxes will still leave a strong odor behind, properly made finishings will not. When choosing to use acrylic for your floors, ensure that you are buying a high-quality wax that won’t leave behind an odor after you are done. Not only will your floors look better, but your home will smell better as well.

Quick Drying

Acrylic waxes with a water-based finish dry faster compared to oil-based waxes. An acrylic wax that dries fast is the perfect option when you are working on smaller floor areas. However, if you are waxing a larger area, you may not want a quick dry; this can leave you with less time to ensure the wax is smooth and balanced. Having the floor dry faster is also a plus if you need to use the floor soon after waxing. In places with high foot traffic, this can help you clean and wax your floor without holding people up too much. A faster drying wax will also help eliminate the possibility of dust or other pollutants mixing in while working, leaving behind a better job when you’re finished.

Natural Color and Sheen

When you choose an acrylic floor wax, you’re preventing unwanted color changes in your wooden floors. However, if you do want to create a deeper, richer color for your floors, there are acrylic floor waxes that can be used in conjunction with oils to help you achieve that look while still maintaining the health of your floors and reaping the benefits acrylic wax has to offer.

Acrylic is also a good option if you don’t want a floor with a high gloss. An acrylic floor wax produces a semi-gloss sheen. This creates a different look to your floors that you may want, depending on the aesthetic of the room. Acrylic floor waxes also soften the surface of many hardwood floors, giving them a more natural sheen and look.

Added Protection

As opposed to polishes and other finishings, acrylic wax is a good way to keep your floors protected. While many other finishings will simply buff and polish your floors, acrylic wax adds a layer of protective coating. When you finish your floors with acrylic wax, you ensure that their condition will remain consistent no matter how much foot traffic or other use the floors sustain.

Waxes will also fill in and protect scratches or other damages on your floors. With an acrylic wax finish, you’re preventing these damages from getting worse while also preventing new damages overall. If you can’t afford the time or money to replace part of your floor or fix it, an acrylic wax is a great option to help preserve what’s still intact.

Long-Lasting

An acrylic floor wax will last longer on your floors than other types of polishes or finishings. Polish needs to be reapplied more often, costing you more time and money overall. Acrylic waxes, however, maintain their integrity and quality for a longer period of time. Waxes may take longer to apply, but they don’t require much maintenance and are more cost-effective overall compared to other options. Acrylic floor waxes will save you time and money in the long run.

If you’re looking for the best finishing for your hardwood or laminate floors, then you need a high-quality acrylic floor wax. Epoxy-Coat has you covered with a variety of acrylic waxes, depending on the needs of your floors. You can order the products online or call us at 1-800-841-5580 if you need help with your DIY floor project. Our knowledgeable team is ready to help you get your floors in perfect condition. Why You Should Acid Etch Your Concrete Flooring

Why You Should Acid Etch Your Concrete Flooring

Photo by Tina Dawson on Unsplash

Coating concrete floors is a hefty task that takes several steps to accomplish properly. Before you begin applying an epoxy coat or paint, you should prepare the floor first. Acid etching concrete is the perfect way to prepare the surface of your flooring to prevent any chipping or peeling. If you don’t properly prime and prepare your concrete flooring, your new coating can deteriorate quickly, and you’ll spend more time and money fixing every new problem. With acid etching done first, however, your DIY concrete flooring project will come out perfectly.

What is Acid Etching?

Acid etching concrete is the process of using harsh chemicals to remove the top surface of your concrete flooring. This helps to expose the flooring’s pores, preparing the surface for new applications. Acid etching is the method of choice for DIY projects that involve new installations in a small- to medium-sized room. Additionally, the alkalinity of the concrete becomes neutralized under the acid wash, creating a stronger bond with any new coating. Acid etching is necessary to ensure a strong bond and a long-lasting coating.

Types of Acid Etching

When you decide to acid etch your concrete, you’ll have a few options of acid available on the market. The type of acid you’ll want to choose will depend on your budget, the condition of the concrete, and the coating you’re planning to use. There are four common types of acid you can use in your etching.

Muriatic acid is the most popular acid as it’s highly effective. It has a high iron content, resulting in a yellow hue. If your concrete has rust or excess mortar, muriatic acid is the best option to remove it. However, be careful as the acid can also destroy fabrics and corrode many metals. It’s important with any kind of acid to use proper safety equipment, but this is especially true with muriatic acid. Gloves and proper clothing can prevent the acid from burning your skin, and masks combined with proper ventilation are required to avoid breathing in the noxious fumes the acid can cause.

Hydrochloric acid is a refined version of muriatic acid. It’s found in stomach acid and is a powerful tool in processing steel, manufacturing batteries, and treating swimming pools. Because it shares the same powerful qualities as muriatic acid, a similar level of protection should be employed to avoid injury or damages when acid etching with hydrochloric acid.

Phosphoric acid is weaker than muriatic or hydrochloric acid, but it’s still a good option. It’s a common acid found in many household cleaning detergents and is used as a food additive. Its weaker properties make it safer to handle and easier to work with. However, phosphoric acid isn’t as effective as other acid options. It is also not as readily available to the general public and will often cost you more money.

Citric acid is a good option if you’re looking for the safest acid to work with. Because it’s found in citrus fruit and is often used in manufacturing food, citric acid poses the least amount of threat to your health as you work with it. However, it’s more costly. Additionally, citric acid is weak and requires a longer reaction time to work properly. If you do choose to use citric acid for your concrete flooring, make sure you give yourself enough time while etching for the acid to work.

How to Acid Etch

The first step in acid etching your concrete floor is safety and preparation. You should always make sure you have all the proper safety equipment, including rubber gloves, rubber boots, safety glasses, and respirators to help protect you against the fumes.

Then, you need to clean your concrete flooring to ensure all levels of the surface are etched properly. If you don’t sweep, clean, and rinse off the flooring, your acid etching won’t be effective. And without an effective etch, your coating is more likely to peel or crack.

Using the proper safety equipment, you then mix your acid etching solution and apply it to the surface. With the acid etching process, you simply spray your solution and wait as the acid reacts. It’s important to keep the surface of your floor wet, applying water wherever it starts to dry. You’ll be able to visibly tell once the acid has finished its job.

Once the acid has been neutralized, it’s time to rinse away the solution and check for completion. You’ll need a balanced PH on your concrete floor to ensure a proper coating, so dampen a small section and check that the PH is neutral at 0.7 before you begin applying your coating.

Why Acid Etch

There are other ways you can prepare your concrete flooring for DIY work, but acid etching is one of the most effective methods. Grinding is another common method. However, accessing a powerful and effective grinder isn’t always easy or cheap. Acid etching saves you money and doesn’t require as much physical labor to work. Acid etching is a powerful tool that will help prepare your concrete floors for whatever work you intend for them.

Epoxy Product FAQs

Why epoxy a garage floor?

Epoxy is one of the most durable and toughest garage floor coatings available. It seals and protects your garage floor from tire marks and stains from gasoline and other chemicals. Epoxy does an excellent job of covering cracks and imperfections. Garage floors with epoxy finishes are easier to care for because they resist moisture and are less dusty.

An epoxy-coated garage floor looks amazing! It gives your garage a showroom look. Epoxy coatings allow you to create a custom look with a variety of colors and blends of color flakes. Or choose one of our metallic epoxy options for a truly unique look.

Why is epoxy better than paint for garage floors?

Epoxy is better than paint for garage floors because it’s more durable, prevents stains, scratches, and doesn’t chip like paint. It bonds to surfaces better than paint. Epoxy is the best garage floor coating option available and is a cost-effective solution.

Is a top coat required for an epoxy floor?

A top coat is not required, but we highly recommend applying one. A top coat enhances the durability and strength of an epoxy floor. Over time, microscopic scratches build up on an epoxy floor and can create a dulling effect to the color. A top coat acts as a sacrificial layer, absorbing those scratches so the rich color of your epoxy floor stays true. A top coat increases the strength of your epoxy while adding a stunning gloss shine!

How to apply epoxy to a garage floor

The ideal temperature for applying Epoxy-Coat is 40F-85F (4C-30C) and humidity should be below 85%.

We recommend testing for moisture. Our Vapor Gauge test kit makes this a simple task. It’s also suggested to test previous sealants. To determine whether the concrete has been previously sealed, pour a small amount of water onto the surface in various areas. If the water beads, a sealer is present and needs to be either chemically or mechanically removed with a diamond grinder.

Preparation

Sweep or blow off the floor thoroughly. Use a diluted degreaser to remove any contaminants and oil. Add acid granules floor prep solution and 5 quarts of water into a pump sprayer and apply to the floor evenly. Scrub the floor surface with a stiff-bristled broom.

After preparing the floor but prior to application, existing joints and saw cuts can be filled with Epoxy-Coat patch kit. Cracks under 1/8” should be patched with Epoxy-Coat acrylic latex caulk.

Application

Follow the mixing instructions for the epoxy coating included with the product kit or online.

Wearing vinyl gloves while applying epoxy floor coating is suggested. Also, consider our optional spike shoes to make the application process easier.

Applying our Epoxy-Coat Primer first is optional, but does help prevent common flooring issues while adding to the coating’s durability.

Pour the epoxy along the farthest wall. Use the kit squeegee to draw the epoxy from the back wall until there is no more wet epoxy. Continue to squeegee, pulling the product down the line until complete.

Next, use the kit roller to apply the epoxy perpendicular to the squeegee applications, smoothing out any lines.

Complete a second section with the squeegee and roll process, then return to the first section and back-roll it again.

If flakes were purchased, take a small amount and apply by throwing the flakes into the air at 5’ or higher. Apply flakes evenly throughout the flooring.

Finally, apply Performance Poly200 Clear Top Coat to protect your floor and to add a showroom shine!

Detailed instructions are available online and included with our kits. You can also check out this instructional video for more information.

What to Do Before You Apply Epoxy-Coat

06/09/2021
by

Before you begin the process of applying epoxy coating, inspect your concrete floor.

We recommend patching all cracks after preparing the floor but before coating application. Since mortar joints/saw cuts are engineered for movement, Epoxy-Coat does not recommend patching them before coating. Epoxy-Coat patch kits and caulk can be purchased online.

To determine whether the concrete has been previously sealed, you can perform a simple test by pouring a small amount of water onto the surface in various areas. If the water beads, a sealer is present and needs to be either chemically or mechanically removed with a diamond grinder.

Epoxy-Coat recommends using the moisture test kit called “Vapor Gauge,” sold at www.epoxy-coat.com, before application. If your test finds the moisture level of the concrete is high, call Epoxy-Coat technical support at 800-841-5580 for instructions.

What is the Ideal Temperature for Applying Epoxy-Coat?

The ideal temperature range when working with Epoxy-Coat is 40F-85F (4C-30C) with humidity of under 85%. Applying Epoxy-Coat in the evening works well.

Prepping the Floor for Epoxy-Coat Application

First, sweep or power blow off the entire floor surface area. Typically, old concrete floors have contaminants that must be removed before coating. Using a diluted degreaser and hot water, scrub those areas vigorously. It’s essential for all contaminants to be removed prior to coating.

Next, combine the pre-mix acid granules and five quarts of water into a pump sprayer. Apply the mixture to the floor by sections and scrub it into the floor with a hard-bristled broom. After that is completed, apply baking soda to the floor and double-rinse with water.

You need to allow the floor to dry completely before applying the coating.

Mixing Instructions

Step 1:

Unpack your epoxy kit and assemble the mixer to a high-speed electric drill

Step 2:

Mix Part A Resin for two minutes

Step 3:

Pour all of Part B into a large mixing bucket

Step 4:

Pour all of Part A into the same bucket

Step 5:

Mix all contents for 3 minutes using an up-and-down motion

Note: The mixture has to be applied within 45 minutes.

Application Instructions

Step 6:

Pour mixture along a wall and use a brush to apply at the edges

Step 7:

Pour a second strip of mixture parallel to the first

Step 8:

Roll the epoxy with a squeegee from the back wall until there are no more parallel lines

Step 9:

Use a roller to roll out the epoxy finish consistently

Step 10:

If using decorative flakes, apply evenly throughout the coating

Step 11 (optional):

Apply a non-skid polyurethane clear coat

Top Coat Recommendation

A top coat is not required, but we highly recommend that you do apply one to extend the durability and beauty of your epoxy floor.

Drying Time

You should allow for 24 hours of drying time and keep water off the surface for 7 days.

Applying a Primer or Multiple Coats

When applying a primer or multiple coats, wait 10-15 hours between each application.

For more application information, watch this video. Additional information is on our FAQ page

Top Coat vs. No Top Coat

06/01/2021
by

We are often asked if a top coat is necessary with our epoxy product. While it isn't required, we highly recommend applying a clear top coat to your epoxy floor. It's pretty affordable, and there are numerous benefits to make a top coat worthwhile.

A Top Coat Maximizes Your Investment in an Epoxy Floor

A top coat enhances the durability and strength of an epoxy floor. After you've put the time and effort into applying epoxy, it makes sense to add the extra assurance to top off your work. Keep in mind that when it's time to apply a top coat, the hardest part of the job is behind you. It's tempting to be content with your beautiful new floor and walk away. However, applying a top coat helps keep your epoxy floor looking as great as it does right after you finish the job.

So, several years in the future, when your epoxy floor is starting to show some wear, all you need to do is sand off the clear coat and reapply one. Your epoxy floor will look brand-new again! A top coat is a smart way to make sure the investment of time and money you put into an epoxy floor keeps paying off for years.

One of the best things about top coats are the stunning gloss finish they provide. You feel like you're walking into a new car showroom when you enter a garage with a top coat shine.

A Top Coat Protects Your Epoxy Floor From Scratches

Inevitably, scratches develop on an epoxy floor. Most of these are microscopic but can detract from the luster of the epoxy coating over time. A top coat is a sacrificial layer that prevents the small scratches from affecting the appearance of the epoxy coat. As a result of normal wear and tear, when more significant scratches occur, a top coat does an excellent job of camouflaging them.

Other Benefits of a Top Coat for Your Epoxy Floor

While an epoxy floor is easy to clean, a top coat only makes it that much easier. With a top coat, a dust mop will glide over the floor with ease and won't catch on any color flakes. If you need to scrub your floor, a top coat means you won't have to worry about damaging color flakes or losing the gorgeous luster of your epoxy floor. The top coat keeps the color of your epoxy floor looking rich and protects color flakes from chipping away. Also, dirt can collect around the edges of the color flakes, making it difficult to clean, and a top coat prevents this from being a problem.

Another benefit is that anti-slip additive granules work better in a topcoat than in the epoxy color coat. This is simply because the top coat conceals the granules, maintaining a smooth surface look on the floor.

We make it easy by providing Clear Epoxy-Coat with our Best and Super Epoxy Coat Kits. The Best and Super Epoxy Kits are exceptional values and come with everything you need to epoxy your floor. You don't have to worry about purchasing a top coat separately or whether or not it is compatible with your epoxy. All you need to do is open up the kit, and everything you need from start to finish, including the top coat, is right there.

Visit our website for more information on these kits or our other outstanding epoxy products!

Commercial Applications

05/25/2021
by

Major companies like Ford, Honda, Disney and organizations like the United States Armed Forces rely on our epoxy coat products for their flooring applications. With a client list like this, it’s easy to see why Performance Epoxy-Coat Kits are a good choice for your commercial applications.

Commercial Applications for Epoxy Floor Coating

Our products are an ideal choice in any environment with a lot of wear and tear that needs to adhere to a clean aesthetic. For example, consider a busy restaurant kitchen with extensive foot traffic and occasional spills. An epoxy-coated floor in this instance is perfect because it stands up to the wear and tear while repelling stains. Also, it’s easy to clean at the end of a restaurant shift. The result is a kitchen floor that looks clean and is able to endure years of heavy wear.

Another excellent example of commercial applications for our epoxy coating are storage facilities. An epoxy floor stands up to wear and tear while repelling hot tire marks from vehicles moving in and out of the facility.

Since many of our largest customers are automobile manufacturers, it’s clear that epoxy coating works in factory environments. Manufacturing floors withstand an extensive amount of wear and pressure from equipment. However, it’s important that these facilities maintain a clean look. Epoxy floor coating meets all of these needs and supports an environment that workers prefer. Employee productivity is enhanced in clean facilities, and epoxy-coated floors help support this effort.

Epoxy Coated Floors are Cost-Effective for Commercial Applications

Commercial facilities save money when choosing an epoxy-coated floor because the labor and material costs are relatively low. A further cost benefit is realized due to the longevity of an epoxy-coated floor. No business wants to lose productivity from having flooring replaced, and epoxy coating minimizes this risk greatly.

Cleaning costs for commercial facilities are not an insignificant expense. Crews can clean epoxy floors quickly and easily. The cost savings is realized whether a commercial facility outsources or uses internal resources for cleaning.

Branding and Epoxy Coating Color Options

Branding is essential for commercial facilities, and that includes color choices. Epoxy floor coating offers the unique option of coordinating a branding color scheme in the flooring. Epoxy color paint can make a powerful statement when incorporated into the overall design of a facility.

Why Choose Our Products for Your Commercial Flooring Needs?

Our epoxy coating is used by companies and organizations that are global leaders in their industries. They know firsthand how durable and effective our epoxy coating is for commercial flooring applications. Epoxy Coat for Basements

05/16/2021
by

When you dread going into your basement because it’s a drab and dingy place, consider the improvement of an epoxy floor coating. Not only does epoxy floor coating protect the existing concrete, it brightens up the basement and makes the floor easier to clean.

Why an Epoxy Coated Basement Floor Makes Sense

Basement floors are typically bare concrete that isn’t aesthetically pleasing. Also, over time, wear and moisture causes cracks in the concrete. In addition, a concrete floor in a basement is a cleaning challenge, so dirt and grime build up.

Epoxy coat is a simple and cost-effective solution to all these problems. Epoxy is durable and moisture-resistant, making it ideal for basement applications. An epoxy floor surface is easy to clean and resists dust while repelling stains.

Perhaps most importantly, an epoxy floor coating transforms the look of a basement. You can choose an epoxy coating color that amps up the brightness, or color flakes for a custom look. An epoxy basement floor looks more polished and finished and enhances your home's value.

Epoxy Floor Coatings in Basements are Cost-Effective

Epoxy floor coats are an affordable solution for basements. They provide further cost benefit by prolonging the life of the floor. Since basements are prone to flooding, an epoxy floor is a good choice. Once the water issues are resolved, you won’t have to worry about the expense of replacing flooring when you choose an epoxy coat for your basement. Further cost benefits are less tangible, such as increasing the value of your home in the long run.

Epoxy Floors Are Easy to Apply in Basements

After cleaning your basement floor, open our epoxy kit and you are ready to get started. If there are cracks that need to be filled, our patch kit is an easy solution. Applying an epoxy coating doesn’t require lugging heavy materials or equipment down your basement steps. Also, you don't have to hire a professional to apply an epoxy floor coating. Save money with this do-it-yourself project that provides incredible benefits.

Why Choose Our Epoxy Kits for Your Basement Application?

How to Apply Epoxy on Linoleum

04/26/2021
by

Some people hesitate about applying an epoxy coating over a linoleum floor. However, before you consider alternatives to using epoxy on linoleum, rest assured that it works well, is easy to apply, and looks wonderful when finished. Not to mention - you save a lot of money by using epoxy coating instead of replacing the flooring!

Epoxy application on linoleum floors requires a number of steps for maximum quality and efficiency, but it isn’t a difficult process.

Do I need to remove linoleum before applying epoxy to my floor?

No, as long as the linoleum is still safely attached to the concrete below it, you can put an epoxy coating on top easily. Most people don’t realize how easy it is to apply epoxy on linoleum. Paying a professional isn’t necessary. If the linoleum is in good condition, it’s a project you can complete yourself. We’ve outlined the steps and the tools you’ll need for a successful project!

Preparing Linoleum for Epoxy Coating

First, inspect your floors for scratches and damages. The floor does need to be in good condition, so you’ll need to repair damage prior to adding the epoxy coating. Next, the existing floor needs to be thoroughly cleaned. Use a brush and a heavy-duty cleaner to scrub it down. You want to be sure the linoleum is free of grease or grime. If the linoleum still appears glossy after scrubbing, the remaining wax needs to be removed. If this is the case, a wax stripping product will do the trick.

The next step is to sand the floors aggressively and create a roughed-up surface while removing any traces of wax or paint splatters. A good sanding produces the ideal texture for epoxy adherence.

Applying Epoxy to Linoleum is Easy

Now you’re ready to apply the epoxy primer. We recommend applying as many coats as necessary to create a smooth surface for painting linoleum. After that, you can paint the floors using a roller to apply our epoxy coating.

Follow the instructions for drying time included with the product and before you know it, your floors will look brand-new!
